Activities at a glance

To adopt and implement revenue and development activities for the implementation of women's development policies in the light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Poverty Alleviation Strategy Paper (NSAPR) for women's development and equality.

Coordinating public/private initiatives and activities undertaken for women development through the Directorate of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.

Self-employment opportunities are being created for women through vocational and practical training at women friendly residential/non-residential training centres.

VWB  Program (Formerly VGD): The largest social security program (Safety net program) of the Government of Bangladesh provides 30 kg of food grains and training per woman for two years or 24 months for sustainable development of poor and helpless and physically able women. Total number of VWB beneficiaries is 1973.

Mother and Child Assistance Programme:  “Maternity Allowance for Poor Mothers” and “Urban Area Lactating Allowance” is an enhanced version of the “Mother and Child Assistance Programme” implemented by the Directorate of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. This program is planned for nutritional development and intellectual development of children aged 0 to 4 years under the National Social Security Strategy. Department of Women's Affairs has planned to provide maternity allowance for poor expectant mothers in rural areas of Bangladesh and to meet the health and nutritional needs and intellectual development of expectant mothers, low-income working mothers during pregnancy from 0-4 years of age. Beneficiaries 36 months allowance at the rate of Tk 800 per month. received Currently around 1401 beneficiaries are enrolled and receiving monthly benefits from this programme. 

    

Microcredit Program for Women's Self-Employment:  Microcredit is provided with the aim of creating self-employment by engaging the penniless and poor women in productive activities who have received various vocational training. "Microcredit Program for Women Self-Employment" program from 2003-04 to 2022-2023 financial year beneficiaries are getting micro-credit.

    

Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Program: In 1986, with the aim of providing legal advice and assistance to women victims of abuse, the Women Affairs Prevention Program was started at the head office of the Directorate of Women Affairs with 4 posts with 1 law officer, which  later included prevention of violence against women in the office of the District and Upazila Women Affairs Officer. Committees were formed and various programs were undertaken to prevent violence against women and children. A women and child abuse prevention committee has also been formed at the union level.

 

National Helpline Center for Prevention of Violence against  Women and Children: Providing immediate legal assistance to helpline number 109 through multisectoral activities to prevent violence against women. Women and children victims of torture can get necessary help from any mobile phone 24 hours a day, including their family members.

    

Registration, regulation and grant distribution of voluntary women's associations:  Registration and supervision of voluntary women's organizations along with annual grant disbursement among them. There are total 14 active associations in Madhupur upazila.

 

Youth empowerment program for positive change in society by organizing in clubs : Running youth club to empower teenagers as active agents of social change in a supportive environment of family and society. Activities are ongoing to create awareness to prevent child marriage, sexual harassment. The number of beneficiary girls is about 540. There are a total of 18 clubs in the municipality and union.
